As Clif Bar has settled into their first ground-up Bakery (designed by Babcock Design in 2016), they’ve quickly grown, and their need for locker room space has doubled. We were tasked with expanding the locker room and uniform areas while creating a spa-like experience for their employees as they arrive at work. Just as Clif Bar’s lens of sustainability principles influences their business decisions, Babcock Design looked at these spaces with a biophilic approach. The driving biophilic element in the space was a glowing cloud-like ceiling, daylit from above by solatubes. From there, we also incorporated biomorphic forms, patterns, and biomimicry in the uniform storage racks. Through many charettes and work sessions with bakery employees, the new employee locker room ultimately reflected Clif Bar’s values.
