— OVERVIEW
FLSmidth based in Denmark specializes in the equipment and technologies for the processing of minerals around the world. Their North America headquarters facility is comprised of a 90,000 sf office building linked to a 78,000 sf technology center. The facility is located in the center of the Salt Lake Valley at a nexus of vehicular, light rail transportation and the Jordan River. The site is a reclaimed brown field and the buildings are registered for a LEED gold and silver rating. The office building, designed specifically to meet the organizational needs of FLSmidth, also takes advantage of sweeping views of the Wasatch Front. The company’s international identity is captured in a 3-story grand staircase housing exhibits that portray the history of minerals technology. Finishes in the public areas display the beauty of the various minerals found in the earth.
A very specialized program for the Technology Center accommodates areas for research and development of large-scale mining equipment and houses labs for the testing of various minerals. A courtyard with trellis, water-feature and outdoor barbecue link the two buildings and creates comfortable outdoor setting for large company gatherings.
