Senior Interior Designer
Babcock Design is a multi-disciplinary firm providing full-service design from landscape and master planning, architecture & interior design and has been providing professional services since 1984. With offices in Salt Lake City, Utah & Boise, Idaho, our team of exceptional design professionals is united in the belief that design makes a difference. Our ideology is that all disciplines of the design process are interdependent, and when grouped in a collaborative process, we can make a project truly successful. The role of Senior Interior Designer is paramount in our design process & helps lead the interior design elements of the process in collaboration with the architectural leads of the project to provide both design and project management oversight on a project. This opportunity allows for professional and personal development with responsibilities to lead design efforts, care for and educate clients and provide mentorship and leadership to other team members.
Responsibilities
- Design lead on projects providing advanced space planning, design and rendering skills.
- Translates design intent to building and construction codes and construction documents.
- Interfaces with the principal-in-charge/director to deliver the highest quality of service.
- Prepare strategic plans for project success and use knowledge and experience in the design industry to move a project through the full design process.
- Actively manages client budgets, schedules and programs; project communications and documentation; office administrative tasks; and project team assignments.
- Directs work for other team members and provides guidance and mentorship.
- Has responsibility for managing all aspects of multiple small to midsize projects.
- Serve as the primary client liaison to bring the design, schedule, budget and scope of work to completion and to the client’s satisfaction.
- Involved in business development to manage and create relationships with current and potential clients.
- Estimates fees, determines scope of work and prepares proposals and contracts with oversight & guidance from the principal-in-charge/director.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- In-depth understanding of the design process and essential deliverables for a successful project.
- Understand code requirements.
- Advanced understanding of finish materials, including product applicability and use in various sectors.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to direct and manage clients.

- Proficiency in design-related technology & software, including AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher education in design.
SALT LAKE CITY OFFICE
Interior Designer
The role of Interior Designer is an integral part of the design process. It helps move the interior design elements of a project in collaboration with interior design and architectural leads. This position allows for professional and personal development with the responsibility to guide Design Assistants and be given direction from Senior Designers, the Design Director and other senior project roles.
Responsibilities
- Orchestrate design responsibilities delegated by Senior Designers, Design Directors and other senior-level staff. Provide design support on large projects and may lead design efforts on small to medium projects. Anticipate the next step in the design process and understand key design deliverables.
- Provide experienced space planning, design and rendering skills.
- Translate design intent to building and construction documents, with an understanding of code and building requirements.
- Work in collaboration with senior-level design staff, industry consultants and clients and thoroughly understand the design process and design industry.
- Assist in managing client budgets, schedules and programs, project communications and documentation, and office administrative tasks while directing design assistants. Provide these functions under the direction of senior-level design staff and may lead this effort on small to mid-size projects.
- Manage all aspects of multiple small to mid-size projects with direction and guidance from senior-level design staff.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Thorough understanding of the design process, necessary deliverables, and essential milestones for a successful project.
- Understand basic code requirements.
- Understand finish materials, including product applicability and use in various sectors.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to direct junior-level staff and collaborate with senior-level staff.
- Comfortable with design-related technology and software, including AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup and Adobe Creative Suite. Ability to work fluidly in these software types to create project presentations, renderings, and construction documentation.

Landscape Architect / Planner
Babcock Design seeks a Senior-Level Landscape Architect/Planner to lead our site design team. This is an opportunity to shape and lead Babcock Design’s land planning efforts. Responsibilities include managing the design efforts of various projects, including large-scale master planning of commercial and residential developments and landscape and irrigation design.
As the senior member of the site design team, this individual will be involved in all phases of the project, including business development, responding to requests for proposals, maintaining budgets and schedules, master planning, conceptual design through construction documents and construction observation.
DAY-TO-DAY
- Work directly with Principals, Project Managers and Planners to coordinate and implement creative design opportunities for various clients and project types.
- Collaborate with the internal design team, including the Salt Lake and Boise Offices project consultants.
- Schedule and direct the efforts of the site design team, including creating and implementing schedules and budgets for each project.
- Oversee development and preparation of design presentations for clients, stakeholders, jurisdictional review boards etc.
- Ensure quality assurance of construction documentation and design intent.
- Assist with construction administration and on-site observations as required.
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited institution within the field of Landscape Architecture, Urban Design or Planning
- 5 to 8 years (post-graduation) of relevant working experience in a professional design firm, is ideal but not required
- Licensed Landscape Architect with the ability to practice in Utah, Idaho and other states as needed.
- Understand site design principles and best practices to ensure an elevated design meeting the client’s expectations.
- Strong visualization skills
- Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong collaboration and team-building skills.
- Knowledge of the technical aspects of Landscape Architecture, including planting, grading, stormwater management and construction detailing.
- Ability to oversee the completion of construction documentation.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and SketchUp
- Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
