—  OVERVIEW

AN OFFICE BUILDING, REIMAGINED FOR LEARNING.

The Elko Institute for Academic Achievement (EIAA) is a public K-8 charter school in Elko, Nevada. After outgrowing its original space, the school first engaged Babcock Design to design a new facility. When a nearby office building became available, the school changed course and purchased it, and Babcock Design adapted the program to fit the existing structure.

The interior was completely demolished and rebuilt as a fully functioning school, with new classrooms, administrative offices, and a cafeteria. Fitting an educational program into a building never designed for one required careful planning of circulation, building systems, and code upgrades. Site improvements created safe on-site pick-up and drop-off, and exterior updates gave the building a clear identity as a school.
