— OVERVIEW
Built to keep pace with a growing city.
As South Jordan grew, so did the demands on its civic facilities. The original City Hall, built in 2003, could no longer accommodate the city's expanding police and court operations. Babcock Design responded with a 44,000-square-foot Public Safety Building that gives these services the room they need today and the flexibility to grow with the community. Positioned between City Hall and the library, it completes a civic campus at the heart of the city.
Before drawing a single floor plan, our team mapped how each department actually works: who needs to be near whom, which spaces the public should reach, and which must stay secure. Those relationships shaped every level of the building.
The police department is organized around a central core, with the chief, deputy chief, and lieutenants positioned for direct connection to their teams. Evidence storage, the crime lab, processing, and the armory and quartermaster are grouped together so evidence and equipment move efficiently and securely. A gym and training area with locker rooms supports officer readiness.
The court level brings the courtroom, court administration, and meeting rooms together in one accessible place for the public. Above, a multi-purpose room opens to an outdoor patio, providing flexible space for training and community events. Fire administration occupies the top floor with offices and open collaborative workspace, while the lower level houses the city archive and staff restrooms and lockers.
The result is a building where public service and public access work side by side, each designed around the people who use it every day.
