—  OVERVIEW

A permanent home for a century-old Utah tradition.

For decades, the Days of '47 Rodeo was held away from the place that best reflects its heritage. This arena brought it home to the Utah State Fair Park, giving one of the state's most cherished traditions a permanent venue for 10,000 spectators. A hospitality building supports the event with a green room, conference and banquet rooms, offices, restrooms, and concessions.

With a firm one-year deadline, Babcock Design delivered an accelerated design and site plan without losing sight of how the Fair Park actually functions. We studied how people, animals, and operations move across the campus, then positioned the arena to fit within the existing fabric and maintain key adjacencies to the equine barns and maintenance buildings.

The architecture draws from the Fair Park's established character. CMU patterns, roof dormers, and a carefully selected color palette connect the new arena to its surroundings, so it feels like it has always belonged there.

Throughout the project, Babcock Design served as the liaison between Days of '47, the State Fair Park, and the State of Utah, keeping all three partners aligned and ensuring every decision delivered the greatest value within the project budget.

The result is a venue that honors more than a century of Utah State Fair history, home since 1902, while giving the Fair Park a new anchor for its future.
