— OVERVIEW
EIGHT STORIES THAT REMEMBER WHAT STOOD THERE BEFORE.
For over seventy years, the corner of University Avenue in downtown Provo was home to Bill Harris Music — Utah County's oldest music store, a family-owned institution that hosted the inaugural Make Music Day event in the Mountain West and ran a string recycling program that channeled proceeds directly to local school music departments. When the opportunity came to develop the site, the design took that legacy seriously. Commission-based murals integrated into the public courtyard, building entries, and street-facing facades extend the tradition of Provo's Art Stroll while anchoring the ground-floor experience in the musical story of the site. The eight-story mixed-use building is organized around a podium-and-tower model — basement parking, two levels of Type I concrete construction housing commercial space and residential lobbies, a podium deck at Level 3 opening onto three landscaped courtyard amenity spaces, and six upper floors of Type III residential construction with Wasatch views from select floors. The project was carried from programming through construction documents, with a fully resolved design intent ready to move forward when the opportunity returns.
