The Utah Military Academy is a free public charter school for grades 7-12, preparing students for admission to United States military academies and for ROTC scholarships. Completed in 2018, the 54,000 SF, two-story building serves as the cornerstone of the school’s second campus in Lehi, Utah.
The school promotes a strong military culture built on core values, academic excellence, and engagement with family and community. Its location near Camp Williams allows the school to draw on active-duty military personnel to enhance its curriculum.
The building pairs traditional classrooms with open cadet gathering spaces that encourage social interaction. Its gymnasium, drill space, and large playing field support a full fall, winter, and spring sports program. Simple forms draw from the design traditions of prominent military schools and academies across the country, while a subdued color palette helps the building blend into the growing residential neighborhood around it.
Babcock Design worked closely with the developer and the school to tailor the building layout to the functional needs of the school’s curriculum.
